Oleksandr Kostov (b. 1995) is an emerging Ukrainian composer who shapes intense motivic development into accessible forms. To keep the music approachable, he balances thematic complexity with transparent textures and articulated melodic gestures, drawing inspiration from classical counterpoint, regional folk, and popular-song sources. Active for nearly a decade, Kostov’s output spans solo, chamber, and orchestral works, as well as arrangements.
He collaborated with such new music ensembles as Senza Sforzando, Nostris Temporis, Bergamot Quartet, and Austrian bass-baritone Rupert Bergman. Festival appearances include Two Days and Two Nights of New Music (Odesa, Ukraine), Contrasts (Lviv, Ukraine), and Prism (Baltimore, MD, USA). His works have been recognized at several international competitions, most notably first prize at JS Fest (Turku, Finland), for his Concerto for Piano and Chamber Orchestra.
Internationally trained, Kostov holds degrees from Odessa AV Nezhdanova Academy of Music (BA, MA) and Towson University (MM). He currently teaches and is pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Michigan with Michael Daugherty and Erik Santos.
